mission: impossible
So as of November 1st, I had placed myself on yet another shopping ban. This time it is going to last for 40 days and 40 nights (yes, like the movie, but with clothes+shoes). And aside from a beautiful pair of OTK boots that happened to cross my path on Tuesday evening, I am determined to stick to this shopping ban no matter what. My apologies to those who were hoping to shop vicariously through me. At the very least, I will be posting about things I would have bought if I weren't on this ridiculous ban.
The other part of this project is to challenge myself to use my current wardrobe and accessories to create new, innovative outfits every day (as if I didn't already have a hard enough time trying to decide what to wear in the morning). And of course, to chronicle my 40 days (of hell), I will be attempting to take 40 photos (weather permitting), one for each day I come up with a completely new look. Impossible you say? Yeah, that's what I said too.

good luck nicole, you are very brave to take this on. like you, i've been trying to go on a shopping ban but i'm failed sooo miserably. i'm keen to see what your tips are to survival. i could learn a thing or two from you! i have started to shop more thrift though but only for accessories for now.
love the green balloon dress and the Made her think rings.
re: chanel - i'm leaning towards the black classic quilted but i havne't given up on the oversized tote just yet...argh...what to do.
Good luck! I did a shopping ban too before my trip lol. That lasted 3 weeks...and then I let loose when I got off that plane
PS thx for commenting on my little site. very sweet of you.
I'm on a two week ban for now. We can commiserate together.
Holy smokesss 40 days! It's funny, today I was thinking to myself that perhaps I should try to curb my shopping by not allowing myself to buy anything until I wear all the new unworn clothes still sitting in my closet.
The only way a 40 day shopping ban would be possible for me is if I banned myself from going downtown, all the malls, and blocking all my online websites. Basically I'd have to live in a hole for a month. Keep us updated with your progress. If you get tempted, blog it out!!
Good luck! I'm on a personal shopping ban as well until the new year, but I've already purchased a pair of tights and gloves! However those are winter necessities no?
Good luck! I'm on a ban for clothes...but not accessories. Still, it's tough when there's so many cute things!
good luck! now that i have a job, no more ban for me! wait, was i ever actually on one?? hmm. anyway, after this weekend (3 sample sales) i'm going to cut back on unnecessary spending. i need a blazer for work and a winter hat. but other than that there's not much else i really need. we'll see how this goes.
OMG and I have just introduce you to ASOS! Not helping! Sorry! Haha!
I think it's a GREAT mission! I'm really looking forward to see those 40 pictures! =] Good luck!!!!
Hi Nicole. Thanks for stopping by and leaving a comment. I really appreciate it. - Sounds like a really great challenge and I think it's a good way to look at what you have and be more creative with what's in your closet. I do that from time to time and I try to buy pieces that will go with what I already have. Good luck and looking forward to seeing what you come up with :)
I wish you good luck! Really love your collage, nice items!
I've just put myself on a shopping ban as well (until Xmas, when I'l be forced to get gifts... or else people will hate me). Like you, I'm only going to purchase a pair of OTK boots next week and that's it. Gorgeous collage though... that Paul & Joe dress is stunning. And I wonder if that Waldorf Astoria key actually works...
Awesome blog by the way!
Wow, it looks like we're all in the same boat here! I'm on a bit of a shopping ban until Christmas so that I save money for people's presents and still keep up my with my personal savings and investment goals. I bought a pair of gloves last week so that was a fail--but then again, I've been wanting elbow-length black gloves for a while and not having any luck with leather ones, and $14 for knit ones...you really can't beat that. :P
Good luck with your ban! I know how hard it can be--I was on a 5-month ban last year.
I believe that is quite the impossible.. but good luck babe!
Good luck! I really should be on a shopping ban myself, considering I'm supposed to spend the holidays in New York City, but that La Mer watch has been calling my name! Perhaps you could simply save enough for the both of us! :)
many a shopping ban i've gone through, but nothing as serious as this! i actually think this is a great motivation to not shop! 'cause there's something else you have to be doing - chronicling and constantly exercising your creativity! - not just going through each day in agony over not being able to buy anything. so, extreme kudos to you! and in an attempt to save up for some trips next year, i may have to take your challenge as inspiration.
ps - i am kind of dying over that gold sequined number...
First time here on your blog and def. loving it! I am gonna follow your blog :).
Good look with your shopping ban, looking forward to see those 40 photos!

Hey lady-- good luck with the shopping ban! I too must sadly refrain from buying things due to a recent vacation and the economy and blah blah blah ;(
Let's be shopping ban sisters! xxD
Just wanted to say thank you for adding me to your blogroll. I'm now following your blog :)
Another shopping ban? How on earth you can stick to these, I don't know. I admire your strength.
That sequin dress is beeeeeautiful!
*kelsey
I wish I had the will power to do the same!!! So if I hear about a sale I should NOT let you know?!?
That sounds a little taboo. I would love to do what you're doing...wear the clothes I DO have...but once I can't see them (like if they're stacked) then I don't remember them and I'll never wear them.
I need a bigger closet! as do YOU I'm sure ;)
So this is where it all started... I was wondering what Day 33 meant in your post today. First time here in your blog, came from cafe Fashionista's site.
I love the idea, 40 days and 40 nights without shopping. I will die but you are doing it. Proud of you.
Hello Nicole! wow 40 days and 40 nights, I wish I had your restraint.. But yeah not only will you save lots of money you will also rediscover new loves in your own closet.. so fun!=) I'll be following your blog..=) putting you on my links as well..=)
